Day at the Fair

There’s currently a street vendor type fair going on in my town. It’s been going on for over 400 years now. People gather on this street right in front of the main river in our town, setting up stands filled with different types of foods & miscellaneous things. I bought a cute owl mug & plate set for ¥500, got a delicious ice cream & just overall had a really fun time. The last time I went was back when I was around 7 or 12 so it was nice to see it again.

Downtown Adventures

Today was Children's Day here in Japan so my mother & I went downtown for a nice mother/daughter day. First we made a stop at the US Naval Base where we gawked at the blue ocean & the huge carriers. Then we ate lunch at Tamaya (department store) then did a little shopping. I got quite a few cute things which I hope to take pictures of later if I get the chance. We also stopped at Mister Donut for a little dessert! We were going to take the train back but we had a lot of time to kill so we decided to hop on the bus instead. Surprisingly there weren't that many people on the buses. I think it was just because of the time. Everyone was just arriving into the city right as we were departing. I think we made a wise decision to go into town early to avoid the crowds!

My Brown Shoes

I bought these shoes today while I went out for a few errands. I've been on the hunt for new shoes so I was beyond ecstatic when I saw these in the sales section! I also managed to find some cute lace frill socks that will go perfectly with the shoes.

On another note: I've been neglecting my blogspot so bad. I know I don't have much followers so it really doesn't matter if I decide to delete this or not... It's kind of hard trying to manage this while I have Tumblr. It's no excuse but still. I really need to start updating this blog more!

Blue Leather

My new wallet I bought yesterday. It’s currently my new favorite! I’ve been looking for a sleek sophisticated wallet for awhile now so I was beyond stoked when I found this in the sale section. I got it for ¥3,990 instead of it’s original price at ¥10,000! I was originally looking at this bright teal/lime green wallet by United Colors of Benetton but the zipper kept getting stuck in the corner & the sales lady kept giving me lame excuses for it. I’m so glad I passed & found this one instead.

Happy Birthday Moguri

Celebrated the cat's Birthday today! Is my family crazy for getting the cat a birthday cake? I feel like this just proves I will, if not already am, a crazy cat lady. No shame though!

I took some pictures with the birthday boy himself but one turned out kind of blurry & it wasn't worth putting up. Still a cute picture though so I might reconsider.

It's been so quiet here lately, nothing new or exciting in my life. Except I'm going downtown tomorrow via train, so I guess I'll have a nice day to explore & enjoy the weather.

My 23rd Birthday.

I thought I'd take pictures of my outfit since I haven't officially done a OOTD post yet. Excuse my awkward legs...

My Mickey Mouse cake! A bit childish, I know. This cake has memories though. Ever since I was little, while living here in Japan I'd order this cake on my Birthday. It's changed over the years but it was very nostalgic seeing it right in front of me.

The ears are the best part!

My Birthday was beyond great! I spent the morning at the onsen rejuvenating myself, picked up my cake midday, then had dinner & cake in the evening. I even got all teary eyed, well, I actually cried as my grandma read her letter to me. Tears of Happiness, I honestly didn't think I'd breakdown like that. I think being back in Japan & actually celebrating my Birthday here in Japan for the first time in over 15 years was a little overwhelming for me.

I love my Kiki's Delivery Service cushion! I have noticed I'm beginning to accumulate a lot of Kiki stuff. Bit obsessed? I think so!

Moominvalley's 'Little My' mug

I bought this mug last month & today is my first time using it. I also bought a soup mug but it's still tucked away in it's box. I've been a huge Moomin fan since I was a little girl so I get really excited whenever I see Moomin goods at the store.

Setsubun / Bean-Throwing Festival!

Today I ventured off to the Haiki Jinja (Shrine) to celebrate Setsubun. Also known as Bean-Throwing Festival. Setsubun is the day before the beginning of spring in Japan. Basically consists of a special ritual to cleanse away all the evil of the year & to drive away any disease-bringing evil spirits for the year to come.

It's common for people to wear a Oni (demon) mask outside of their house & have their family members throw beans at them while the ones throwing beans shout "Oni wa soto!" (which translates to Demons out!)

Then it's custom for the family to throw beans into their house while they shout "Fuku wa uchi!" (which translates to Luck in!)

I had a really fun time at the Shrine. I sat through a ceremony inside the Shrine then afterwards joined in on the bean-throwing. After they threw the beans, they threw packets of beans that had paper raffles attached to them & bags of mochi (rice cakes). To my surprise, I actually caught a packet of beans so I went to retrieve my prize/gift. I got a Tommy Hilfiger duffle bag! How neat is that? Then when I got home I ate an Eho-maki (lucky direction roll) in silence facing the yearly lucky compass direction, which it determined by the zodiac symbol of that year. It was way too big & long, hahaha, but I ate it all! Woo! Then my grandmother threw money in the dark for us to try to collect. The cat got a little bit hyper from us all laughing & making a lot of noise!

Anyway, I feel like I am rambling. Hope you all enjoy the pictures!

p.s. I feel like the way I edited the pictures has ruined the pretty colors that are meant to be seen. Not sure if I should load different version of the pictures or not... H'm...

February flurries...

New desktop for the month of February.

Snow has been falling all day long today. I love how snow is different here. It's more fluffy & way bigger than the snow back in Minnesota. I was in awe of it, kind of surprising since the one thing I hated most about Minnesota was the snow. I guess here in Japan, at least where I live, won't get as much snow as it did in Minnesota so I have somewhat a different feeling for it now, haha.

My apologies for not blogging more, but then again I don't have many subscribers so I don't think they've noticed. (:

On another note: my birthday is coming up! February 13th, I'll be turning 23! Do not like the sound of that at all. Hopefully I'll have lots to blog about around my Birthday!

Sweater: Earth Music & Ecology

I received these as gifts from my Aunt, minus the socks; I bought those for myself. I'm in love with the embroidery on the collar of the sweater, such small detail but a big statement on this piece of clothing. I can't wait to wear it out somewhere, thinking it will go well with a skirt & some black tights.
